A.G Leventis Foundation

The Catalog of Cyprus Pictures 2004, maintained from 1979 to 2018 by Foundation grants, has just been released by the AG Leventis Foundation in three multi-page volumes. The images are sorted by Metropolis, Episcopal, city, village or region, church or monastery. The first volume, 1428 pages, contains the identities of each image in Greek and English, followed by a detailed description of the performance in the Greek municipal language. At the end of the volume there is extensive bibliography and index tables in Greek and English of the contents of the catalog, dated images, pictorial themes, cities, villages, districts and monasteries, hagiographers' names, donors and dedicators, and functional objects. The second volume, 1196 pages, and the third, 843 pages, contain full-color colored picture boards. The oldest pictures in the catalog date back to the 12th century. and the newest one in 1986. During the long period of eight centuries, many images were lost and destroyed. A representative part of the survivors is included in the List. They are images of various styles, from folk to western, which reflect all the ecclesiastical tendencies of Cypriot society and constitute the treasure of Cypriot ecclesiastical faith and art. It is the largest church heritage conservation program in Cyprus and Greece. A representative part of the survivors is included in the List.
